A sexed pair of Giant spiny, aka thorny devil, Eurycantha Horrida, maybe 8-10 cm long at the moment roughly half their adult length. Perhaps 2 skin sheds from adult, 3 at most.

This is the biggest Eurycantha species bred in captivity and has the biggest spines. The only larger one known hasn't been recorded for over 100 years (Eurycantha portentosa) and live on an island like in the King Kong movie (we want some).

Horrida are an amazing yet easy to keep, truly giant and robust species of stick insect, only recently bred in captivity in the UK. The adult males have really impressive leg spines and both sexes are highly intelligent (for a stick insect). They will happily eat bramble but lots of other foodplants are possible. They like it quite humid so glass/plastic cages are best, a warm room temperature is fine. You might have heard that the adult males fight to the death (we were told that) but ours do not do that, we currently have 8 adults males in the same cage with a similar number of adults females, no drama!

Lots of care info online but similar to jungle nymphs and giant hooded katydids. Probably not suitable for small children as the adults can hurt if handled carelessly without gloves. Truly a great species, not too slow to grow up but live a long time, not delicate and fun to handle, we've even taken them to the pub! They like water a lot, they even seem to like resting in their water bowl but don't let hem submerge.
