Leaf Insects, 4 babies, Phyllium letiranti "Tataba"

Our favourite leaf insects, the large adult females are various colours. Lovely attitude and quite easy to keep. Unlike many leaf insect species these ones don't accidentally eat each other! maybe they're a little smarter? Feed very well on bramble which seems to be their favourite out of everything we have tried. We have noticed the older ones taking beech but again bramble seems preferred.

We will send 4 babies that have already started feeding, that's an important first step that some struggle with

Warm room temperature, 65-70% humidity, we do not spray them at all. We use filtered water for the bramble but it may not matter. With the new babies we have a small stick insect in with them to start the leaves off but it's not essential once they have started feeding.

We had zero deaths after the first instar but we are very careful with conditions and they always have fresh bramble. Treat them gently and realise leaf insects are not as easy as stick insects, beginners should start with stick insects first.

The babies are quite good at escaping so make sure your cage is secure. We use large glass/mesh cages with lots of bramble. The males mature faster and don't live nearly as long, the adult females seem to live a long time.
